Lined with many bars, restaurants and cafes, the superb Marina in Puerto Banus on the Costa del Sol is the place to join the rich and famous. Beautiful yachts line the harbour and at night the area becomes a hive of activity. Choose from the variety of restaurants whilst on holiday in Puerto Banus, before dancing the night away, or take a stroll to a quieter Piano Bar or simply enjoy the facilities at your hotel. Puerto Banus offers an amazing array of shops, from international designer clothes stores to tiny local boutiques; major shopping chains to street markets and fashion outlets.
Split into three districts and a mere 19 kms from Malaga airport, the seaside resort of Benalmadena on Spain’s Costa del Sol, is a popular location for those looking to enjoy an area full of daytime and night-time activities. Stunning yachts line the busy port harbour, a perfect place to sit in an open air bar or cafe and watch the world go by! And at night, the Harbour Port is buzzing, with nightclubs offering the latest club sounds to suite every taste in music, together with a host of bars and restaurants. A promenade stretches along the front of Benalmadena for several kilometres and has been completed with an amazing array of mosaics done by a number of different artists.
Most of the hotels and apartment complexes have superb views of the magnificent seven kilometre sandy beach at Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol. Fuengirola is only about twenty minutes from Malaga airport, and is popular with tourists and the Spanish alike, due to its magnificent beaches and easy access.
Torremolinos was the first resort to be developed for visitors on the Costa del Sol and is located just 7 km west of Malaga airport. Over recent years, it has become a more appealing location than is generally expected, with good beaches, a superb choice of hotels and apartments, extensive selection of land and sea based activities, and wonderful nightlife and restaurants. Shopping whilst on holiday in Torremolinos is excellent with not only gift shops and clothing emporiums, but well known boutiques and craft stores too. El Bajondillo is the old fishing district and very picturesque with a great selection of restaurants and shops selling souvenirs.
Whilst the old town of Estepona on the far west coast of Costa Del Sol, is well known for its tourist facilities, it has still maintained some of its old world charm. There are a number of museums, including one dedicated to Bullfighting, a delightful and traditional square, Plaza de las Flores. Sierra Bermeja Mountain dominates the landscape behind Estepona.
Many will pass through Malaga on their way to their chosen beach resort, but a stay in this historic Spanish city or day trips to visit, is really recommended. Not only is Malaga the perfect location to explore the many historic monuments and churches, but the little streets and squares open up to a host of delightful cafes and restaurants and some fantastic shopping opportunities. Boutiques, craft shops and larger shopping centres are available in Malaga so you won’t have a problem finding the perfect gift to take home.
The lovely village of Mijas nestles in the mountainside overlooking the glorious Mediterranean; however Mijas Costa stretches over 12 km of villages, lining the coast. The village itself is steeped in old Andalucian traditions and customs and boasts narrow cobbled streets with craft shops and galleries; whist the beach area is much more modern, with a good range of water sports including waterskiing, wakeboarding and windsurfing.
Developed from a little fishing village into a characterful resort with about 16 km of powdery sand and an endless choice of water sports, Nerja located on the eastern tip of the Costa del Sol, offers a superb choice of hotel and self catering accommodation flanked by the dramatic Sierra Almijara mountain range. Whitewashed houses and narrow, winding streets lead you through the old part of Nerja, and the magnificent Balcon de Europe promenade offers the most stunning panoramic views of the Mediterranean coastline. Whilst on holiday in Nerja you will never be short of choice of places to eat and Nerja boasts some amazing archaeological treasures and sights, including the famous Nerja Caves; a particular interest for experienced potholers.
